How bandwidth is calculated
How email size is measured, what happens when you hit your limit, and how throttling works.
Each time an email arrives at your mask, Maskr measures its full size in bytes (headers, body, attachments and all). That size is added to your monthly bandwidth counter.
Estimated emails per plan
- Free (10 MB) — roughly 400–500 plain-text emails
- Starter (500 MB) — roughly 20,000–25,000 plain-text emails, or 1,000+ emails with attachments
- Pro / Max (50–100 GB) — effectively unlimited for any normal inbox volume
What happens when you reach your limit?
Free plan: When your 10 MB is used up, further emails are queued. If you have wallet credit, Maskr draws from it automatically (you will not miss an email). If your wallet is empty too, the email is dropped and the sender receives a delivery failure notice.
Starter plan: Same behaviour — overage draws from your wallet. You will receive an email warning at 90% of your bandwidth cap.
Pro / Max / Pay-As-You-Go: Fair-use bandwidth. Very high-volume forwarding above the fair-use limit is billed per GB from your wallet at the standard overage rate.
Throttling — the 200 email/hour limit
Every account is throttled to 200 emails per hour. If you hit this limit, Maskr's privacy routing engine issues a temporary deferral (SMTP 451) so the sending server's outbound queue retries automatically. You do not lose those emails — they arrive as soon as the queue clears, usually within a few minutes.
Monthly reset
Your bandwidth counter resets to zero on the 1st of each calendar month. Unlike some services, Maskr does not offer a manual reset purchase — the monthly cycle is automatic and free.
